Early greenhouse vegetables will be produced more in Zakarpattya next spring

According to the information provided by Zakarpattya office of the Agricultural Marketing Project (AMP), local farmers and private agricultural producers actively invest money into film greenhouses construction this fall. To the opinion of AMP experts, the supply of early vegetables may grow on Western European countries and in Kyiv due to this fact.

The farmers traditionally construct not-heated film greenhouses to use the unique Zakarpattya climate to the maximum and bear minimum expenses for early vegetable production. Early cabbage, radish, fresh herbs, cucumber, and tomato are mainly produces in such greenhouses.

Usually Zakarpattya producers are among the first to supply early vegetables to Lviv and Kyiv markets, nearly simultaneously with Odesa and Crimea suppliers. As a rule, Zakarpattya and Odesa producers influence the market most of all. Despite of the growing transportation expenses, the wholesalers are still very interested in early vegetables of Zakarpattya origin. Taking into account the perspectives of demand growth on early vegetables in spring 2006, the production increase will hardly make prices significantly lower.

Zakarpattya region will be decently presented on the second international conference "Fruits and vegetables of Ukraine 2005". The most efficient producers and processors of the oblast will take part in the event.
