Ukraine will soon start exporting sweet cherries to Germany

In 2010 Ukraine is expected to export sweet cherries to the EU for the first time. Black Sea Fruit Company is the first of Ukrainian companies, which concluded a contract with German buyers to supply sweet cherries from South of Ukraine.

According to Fruit-Inform experts, German buyers are planning to import 100 tons in 2010 as test imports. However, if the first experience will be positive, German companies are planning to import much more sweet cherries in the upcoming years. Black Sea Fruit Company is planning to export much more sweet cherries to Russia and Belarus this year and is expected to significantly increase production in 2011-2012.

Presently most of sweet cherries imported to Germany are produced in Turkey.

Black Sea Fruit Company is the largest producer of sweet cherries on low-growing rootstock of modern varieties. The company started growing sweet cherries in Zaporizhzhia oblast several years ago, using German planting material. The region where company orchards are located is famous throughout the Former Soviet Union for highest quality of sweet cherries produced.

Vasyl Mykulyn, Director of Black Sea Fruit Company will talk about their experience in growing modern varieties of sweet cherries in the South of Ukraine and about company development and export plans at the to First International Conference

"Berries of Ukraine - 2010". The conference will be held in Lviv on May 20-21, 2010 at the largest fresh produce wholesale market of Ukraine “Shuvar”. Conference will be held simultaneously with the exhibition devoted to berries. On the second day of the event, participants of the conference will have an opportunity to visit one of the largest strawberry farms in Ukraine “Agro Fruitika Byshkiv” and a berry processing company “Galfrost”.

Conference registration will be closed on May 10, 2010. As of today most of the leading berry growers of Ukraine as well as many largest buyers and input suppliers have registered to attend the event.
