| Conference "Berries of Ukraine - 2010": about conference |
|
Ukraine has been dynamically increasing production of various soft fruits in the recent years although domestic market of 47mn consumers could still absorb more berries, creating many opportunities for profitable investments & trade.
Western Ukraine is one of the key markets for fresh berries, especially for early berries and table grapes, produced in the southern regions of the country. Western Ukraine has a population of around 8.5mn people and best fresh produce logistics in the country thanks to the largest wholesale market of Ukraine "Shuvar" located in the city of Lviv. Around 40% of all sweet cherries, 20% of strawberries and 25-30% of all table grapes of Western Ukraine are sold through this market, making it much easier for suppliers to enter Ukrainian market. E.g. sales of berries through Shuvar are much higher than through the wholesale market of Kiev, and thus, entering market of Kiev would be more difficult than entering the market of Western Ukraine.
In the recent years Western Ukraine has been actively developing its own production of blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, aronia, currants, etc. This region is also a key supplier of wild berries such as blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, huckleberry as well as wild mushrooms. Companies, which were previously involved in collection of wild berries and mushrooms in the recent years, started investing into their own plantations of berries. Proximity of the region to Poland is another important factor, stimulating development of berry business in Western Ukraine.
Conference organizers, "Shuvar" and "Fruit-Inform" are planning to gather in the same room the largest growers of berries from various regions of Ukraine as well as key buyers of the berries: companies involved in IQF freezing, canning, production of jams and representatives of wholesale, retail as well as importers and exporters. Traditionally, suppliers of planting material, inputs, equipment and machinery express high level of interest to the event. On the second day of the conference participants will visit the largest strawberry farm in Western Ukraine and a one of the largest processing factories.
We expect a number of Polish companies at the event, as they are actively looking for further development of their business. In total about 150 professionals of berry business are expected at the conference while number of exhibition visitors is estimated at 1 thousand people.
Conference participants will be exempt from the registration fee to participate in the exhibition and the exhibitors will receive a 30% discount to participate in the conference. All participants will receive special conditions for supplying produce in 2010 through "Shuvar".
